This documentary airs on RTE 2, Wednesday 30th November, at 9.30 pm. RTE reporter, Colm Flynn, travels to Belarus to find out what happened to Banni, a young boy with disabilities, who was to be fostered by the Flynn family. This fell through at the last minute and left the Flynn family heartbroken and with lots of questions.
Banni had come to stay with the Flynn family through the Burren Chernobyl Charity set up by Br. Liam O’ Meara. Br. Liam first visited Belorusian orphanages in 1994 and was so horrified by the conditions he found that he was compelled to do something to help. One of the many things the charity does is to bring groups of orphans to Ireland for about a month to benefit from fresh air, healthy food and stimulation . The documentary will give a good insight into the conditions of the orphanages and the work of the Burren Chernobyl Charity.
