Each year the Churches mark a week of prayer for Christian unity from 18th to 25th January. This year the theme is ‘Give me to drink’ (John 4:7), a quotation taken from Jesus conversation with the Samaritan woman at the well of Jacob. This text is chosen to highlight how important conversation and dialogue are in the project of Jesus, which we call the Kingdom of God. We can further the project of Jesus as we reach out to others in friendship and hospitality. Think this week of Pope Francis reaching out to Buddhists, Hindus and Muslims on his current journey to Sri Lanka and the Philippines.
A Prayer for Church Unity
Almighty and eternal God,
You gather your scattered sheep
and watch over those
you have gathered.
Look kindly on all who follow
Jesus, your Son.
You have marked them with the seal
of one baptism, now make them one
in the fullness of faith and unite them
in the bond of love.
We ask this through
Christ Our Lord
Amen.
